Adam Swanson

MS LMFT
Clinical Supervisor

I obtained my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University of Long Beach, a program known for fostering creative and clinically sound approaches to mental health treatment. Since then I have gained clinical experience in a variety of settings, starting first in the non-profit sector working primarily with children and their families, before transitioning into the field of addiction recovery for adults, as well as obtaining postgraduate training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Throughout my career I have remained passionate about being a force for positive change both for my clients, as well as for the clinical teams I have led as a Program Coordinator and Clinical Director. I have played a primary role in the development of specialized treatment programs such as an outpatient program for first responders suffering from addiction, and I continue to work closely with school psychologists in the Huntington Beach Unified School District in their efforts to provide early intervention for students at risk for addiction.

Today, I am utilizing my experience in working with adolescents and their families, combined with insights gained from years in the addiction recovery field to create a unique approach to helping individuals navigate the difficult terrain of dysfunctional, co-dependent relationships. After years of treating the “problem” child or partner in a relationship, it became clear to me that just as much attention, if not more attention needed to be given to the family member who found themselves entangled in the problems of someone they loved. With this change in perspective and focus, I have found success in taking an individualized approach to solving relationship problems. This is not to discount couples or family therapy, as there is proven efficacy to these modalities. It is just to bring heightened focus to the individual who’s suffering often flies under the radar, and to help them gain the self awareness, self confidence and fortitude to make the positive changes they deserve to see in their lives.

MA, AMFT

“Throughout my life, I have displayed gifts of empathy, compassion, and a deep insight into others. Through obtaining my Masters of Clinical Psychology degree with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University I have been able to hone my skills to an even greater degree and achieve a greater platform to be able to help people, while gaining experience and insight into different demographics including adolescents, college students, adults, families, and couples. I have over ten years of experience working in various fields, helping, coaching, and developing people, and more than three years of experience as a marriage and family therapist. I believe in the empowerment and self-determination of every individual. I am compassionate, caring, and empathetic as I partner with my clients to meet their needs for healing and growth, providing the safe space necessary for them to explore their specific areas of difficulty. Healing and growth take place as clients are free to share their experiences, thoughts, concerns, and ideas while in an accepting, encouraging environment.

Focusing on Attachment and CBT theories, I journey with my clients, giving them the tools they need to be able to dig deep into themselves and further explore life patterns, experiences, and hurts. I utilize mindfulness teachings, goal setting, and visualization exercises in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma, helping clients learn and grow, empowering them towards self-actualization and healing. I have a passion for adolescents and families, joining them in a time of discord, coming alongside them as we work together to find the hope they need to succeed, developing coping skills to be resilient individuals, and rebuilding the bridge between them and their parents, which is truly an honor to be a part of. Helping clients develop healthy relationships while creating the connection we all long for is my passion. I want to share that passion with you, so that together we can find the lasting peace and joy that results in complete wholeness.”

MS; AMFT #129905

I obtained my BA in Psychology from California State University San Bernardino and my MS in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. I am currently obtaining my PhD in Counseling & Psychological Studies from Regent University.

I have experience in working with a wide array of mental & emotional struggles including anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma with clients across the lifespan. I specialize in working with clients with ADHD & neurodivergence, and I personally understand the unique challenges of living with ADHD & managing executive dysfunction. I operate from a holistic healing perspective with the belief that mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health interact with and impact one another. I have training in several modalities but lean heavily into IFS theory. I utilize personality inventories to better understand my clients and to help them better understand themselves.

The relationships I have with clients are deeply rooted in respect and empathy with a healthy dose of humor and relatability. I aim to provide a warm, non-judgmental, & safe space where you can freely and openly share at your own pace while feeling empowered to process & create the change you want to see in your life.
Not all therapy experiences are positive and it’s important to me that each of my clients feel safe enough to do the hard work of healing. The personal work I’ve done in therapy has provided me with an acute understanding of how it feels to be on the receiving end as well as the challenges & importance of finding the right therapist. My goal is to make you feel seen and heard right where you are at and supportively come alongside you in where you are trying to go. I would be honored to be trusted with your journey.
